Compositional Philosophy

It is difficult to explain why I am driven to write music, but as I was once listening to a performance of the Brahms Requiem, I was reminded that music is a divine gift of expression...  A tool for man to express the inexpressible; to communicate the incommunicable...  It is a kind of prayer that can be understood only as it resonates in an open concert hall while voices of the choir dance among the rafters.

Music transcends the simple meaning of things and digs into a depth of emotion that is awoken somewhere between the first and last notes of a symphony, a sonata or a song.  We become lost in the crowds of notes that begin to blot out the space between hundreds of staves, coming to life after having been transformed during a mysterious journey from pen to paper, vision to touch, and resonance to emotion.   As though God had breathed life into each single note, we begin to understand how glorious and wonderful He is... ...That He makes himself evident through such mysterious and wonderful things...  We feel as though, for a moment, we are truly in the presence of God.  It is for that moment that I write.
